Fiber Fever Friday #13

Good Friday Everyone!

I hope that as this day starts you are all happy and looking forward to a long weekend of rest and relaxation (and maybe even a sinful amount of duty abandoning knitting)...

Before any of you are up this morning my day will have started.  Superwife surprised me this past Christmas morning with a big BIG  BIG present and today we are setting out really early to pick it up... in Atlanta.  My beautiful, thoughtful, and sneaky wife has given me a Mach spinning wheel by Spinolutions!  In fact, she's giving me this spinning wheel:

It is coming to me through my new friend Doug, who lives in Atlanta...

The specs on this thing are amazing.  I've even seen a video in which they demonstrate how well balanced this machine is by getting it going and then walking away -- leaving the wheel to spin on its own for a full 4 minutes... Incredible.

So rather than sharing fiber that I've purchased, I'll soon be able to turn Fiber Fever Friday into something more personal and hard-won!

But just in case you are one of the faithful who has shown up today just to see a picture of a beautiful hank of yarn, this one's for you:

This is another Christmas present from a very thoughtful and inspiring friend of mine with lots and lots of spark!  It's a beautiful and extremely soft alpaca blend by Suss Yarn.  I don't yet know what to do with it... any ideas?

Thank you all for stopping by to check in with me and mine today.

Have a wonderful Friday and a knitful weekend!

WIP Wednesday #13

Good Morning Everyone!

It's Work In Progress (WIP) Wednesday and this morning I thought I would share what I am currently knitting and reading (two of my favorite hobbies).   Well, I'm not so much reading as listening to the book but you get the idea... :)

My current knitting is a scarf to accompany yesterday's Dapperly Dashing hat, it's a fun and interesting pattern with a simple repeat that leaves my mind free enough to really settle into my audiobook.

Which brings me to my current audiobook selection: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin -- the first in the A Song of Ice and Fire series.  Set in a world similar to England in the Middle Ages, the book is wonderfully rich in detail and plot with many twists and turns along the way.  The best part is that it's the first in what should be a seven book series!

What are you currently making and reading?  Leave a link or a comment below!

Tuesday Ta-Da! Day #13

Good morning and Happy Tuesday to everyone!

Superwife, Sasha (the dog), Houdini (the cat) and I are all settled into our new dwelling in Cordova, TN -- a Memphis suburb.  We are finally returning to a sense of normalcy even though we are a house divided (between apartment and storage unit).

The house-hunt is going pretty well and we have found two that have great potential for us, so we shall see about them in due time.

I have finally unpacked and settled into something of a knitting routine again and it has been a great relief to return to something of a schedule.  On that note, and since it is Tuesday Ta-Da! day,  I give you the Dapperly Dashing hat from Ravelry:

This being the first of the three that were commissioned before we began our move.  The pattern, although not displayed well in this photograph, is a fun and easy pattern to work on -- especially in the round.

The companion piece, the Dapperly Dashing Scarf, is in progress now...

Also, I would like to mention that January is National Hot Tea month so in this, the dead of winter, you have every reason to put the kettle on!  There are 31 ways to celebrate hot tea this month and they can each be found here: Ways to Celebrate Hot Tea Month

Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Approaching Normalcy

Hello again,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season and that it was warm and relaxed and loads and loads of that to which everyone on the planet aspires -- la dolce vita.

This morning I'm just taking a breath and looking back on what I missed in my personal blogosphere during our transitional upheaval.  As usual, Steph at Woolythyme seems to have had all her ducks in a row for the holidays and plenty of time to enjoy herself -- Steph, your holiday season looked just beautiful!  At the same time, another Steph (this time of Yarn Harlot fame) was enjoying another brace of mindful quackers as she kicked into high gear for the holidays -- check out her pictures they're stunning and will make you wish that your life looked like that (although she says that house is her mothers ;-) -- and her get-it-togetherness this year even managed to umbrella out to cover those giving gifts for knitters!  Very impressive.  Of course, she really knows what to tell them, you know?  Ah well, I wish the best for both of them and I hope that this past holiday season was their normal and that it was as fun and rewarding as it looks from the blogosphere.

My little family and I begin week 4 of our move (this holiday right in the middle of it thing is really stretching this out) but, thankfully, this week we begin the trek back to normalcy.  The Holidays are over and we have a new home to settle into.  I'll continue working from the family home in Arkansas for the next few days, but SuperWife has begun her new Navy job in the Memphis area this morning and will be setting up the required utilities so that the pets and I can transfer to our new home this week.

This week we move home.

This week we can begin a routine after which I can start knitting again!

Wish us luck!

Happy Knitting Everyone!
