Is it fall already? What happened to the summer? This season's change is my favorite time of year -- bringing to mind cool days and nights with the fire lit, hot tea, apple cider, knitting and the smell of gingersnaps in the oven...
It's been a while so I'll just take a moment to catch you all up on what's been going on. As many of you know we moved into our first house (Time Black Hole #1) near the end of April. Near the end of May I resigned from my job as a programmer for a terrible company to take a good position with a great company (New Job = Time Black Hole #2). I had family in and out of the house for most of the summer which was really nice. That time was well spent catching up on time I didn't get to have with them when I lived on the coast -- but it was also time I wasn't knitting (Time Black Hole #4). Finally, we added a new permanent member of the family, Roxie, before we received Taz and Doodles:

Doodles:
The Family (Don't they look like trouble?):
They are our first foster schnauzers from a great southern rescue society. They came to us from Eldon, MO where they were taken to the vet to be put down because their previous owners "didn't want them anymore" (quote from their vet). Thank God that vet believes in saving dogs from terrible owners. He called the rescue society and they made their way to us...
They are beautiful, funny, and loving dogs -- but they are also timid, poorly house trained and sometimes cowed. Poor Doodles has heart worms and if you've never gone through the treatment for such a thing, then I hope you never will. These cute dogs require a, and I can't emphasize this enough, lot of attention. (Time Black Hole #5).
So between our new house, job, and family this has been a very short, though rewarding, summer.
People say to never apologize for radio silence on a blog, but I don't hold with that sentiment. For any of you who have diligently checked on the blog only to find it unchanged these last many months, you have my sincere apologies. All I can say is that Taz and Doodles are worth it and I hope we will find them happy homes very soon.
Now, I titled this post Knit-cation not only because I've been on a vacation from knitting of sorts (I have done some knitting this summer!) but also because my beautiful wife R. has decided to surprise me with a kind of knitting vacation in San Francisco for my birthday on Friday. (I don't call her SuperWife for nothing you know...) We have never been before and I'm sure we'll have a splendid time yarn-crawling through the bay area! We're even taking an empty suitcase to bring back all the fibery goodness. I wish we only had a place to put it once we get it home...
In any case, and as always, I wish all you happy knitters a seasonably cool and happy weekend...
Knit Happy Everyone!
