Fiber Fever Friday #22

Happy Friday Everyone!

All day long yesterday I thought it was Wednesday.  What a great surprise at the end of the day to find that today was going to be Friday!

And if it is Friday, then it must be Fiber Fever Friday!

Today's fiber came to us from Spirit-Trail.net .  R and I indulged ourselves to double portions of the yarn and fiber clubs this year.  This is February's shipment.  The yarn is Lina -- a Corriedale and Nylon blend (75%/25%) and the Fiber is 100% Corriedale.

This is some seriously beautiful yarn to work with.  As usual, Spirit-Trail comes through 100%  for me in terms of fiber and color.

If you would like to get your hands on some Spirit-Trail yarn or fiber, please visit their page here.

I hope you all are planning a relaxing, full fiber weekend -- I know I am!

Fiber Fever Friday #21

Happy Fiber Fever Friday Everyone!

I am currently visiting family out of state so we will make today's post short and sweet.

This week I spun, plied, set and thwacked my second ever hank of yarn:

This was a lovely roving that I got through a destash a friend if mine was doing...  It is 100% merino wool dyed blue and green. I was aiming for a worsted weight two ply and I think I managed to hit that -- although I haven't yet tested the WPI.

I am looking forward to the day when I can spin and ply to match colors together!  But for now I am having a big time just playing with the wheel...

What have you been working on?  Please share your FOs in the comments!

Fiber Fever Friday # 20

Good Morning!

I hope you are all looking forward to the coming weekend!  The weather forecast calls for sunny skies and mid 50's here in Memphis this weekend, but the Fiber forecast calls for a downpour of good fortune!

Late last week I spun my first pair of singles (see Fiber Fever Friday # 19) and last weekend, I plied, set and thwacked my first ever 2-ply.  It did turn out to be a bulky weight yarn, but a great bulky weight yarn!  I am very happy with the result -- although I do not think I will ever be able to use this yarn.  It is going straight into the core stash!

Not too bad, all in all, for a first hank.

Have a wonderful Knitful weekend everyone!

Fiber Fever Friday #19

Happy belated Valentine's Day to everyone...

I hope you all enjoyed yesterday's project Lexicon photograph -- I sure enjoyed that evening.

Well it is Fiber Fever Friday and I thought we would get right to it...

Yesterday I received what can only be described as "a big honkin load of yarn":

And then last night I sat down at my wheel, for perhaps the third time ever, and spun up some roving...

It is certainly not a great job, but it will make an interesting bulky two-ply...  I am just beginning to learn to spin after my wonderful wife got me my wheel a year ago.  The wheel and I are still learning how to work together.

Well, that is all I have for the moment, folks.  I hope you all have a very relaxing weekend full of fun and fiber.  I plan on staying home all weekend to work on Guild business and that nearly done pair of socks!

Fiber Fever Friday # 18

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope everyone has plans to stay in, keep warm, and knit the weekend away -- especially those of you enduring SNOWMAGEDDON this weekend!  I wish we were getting a snow in Memphis this weekend, but, alas, it is going to be a dreary wet 50 degree weekend.

Oh, well...  It should be a good weekend for baking gingersnaps...

...and for working on the THREE (Count'em !  There are only 3!!!) WIPs I have on the needles right now.  I shall try my very best not to cast on another project this weekend.  Even though I really want to because Stephen West just released the first set of patterns from his new KAL book, "Westies Besties" and also because I have recently acquired this:

The yarn is Lorna's Laces, Helen's Lace in the Sand Ridge colorway and it came to me through my LYS during a half price New Year's sale (I had been looking at this yarn for 9 months but couldn't justify the $50 per skein price tag).
It goes with these:

...to make a Shipwreck

So send strong willed vibes my way -- I'm not sure I can resist casting this one on much longer...

Knit Happy Everyone!
Please stay safe and warm this weekend...

Fiber Fever Friday #14

Hello All!  Happy Fiber Fever Friday!

It's been a while since I've been in a position to do a FFF, but that doesn't mean I haven't been finding great deals on all that fibery goodness in the meantime, oh no...

Today's fibery goodness comes in the form of this:

A droolworthy table of really great cottons and some merino/cashmere/mohair on the left... All this great cotton I found in late January at that wonderful shop in Macon, GA Creative Yarns for something in the vicinity of 75% off -- as you can see I completely loaded up for my spring projects with a wonderful array of pinks, yellows, blues, purples, and that springy accent color - brown.

:)  That was a really good day :)

Fiber Fever Friday #13

Good Friday Everyone!

I hope that as this day starts you are all happy and looking forward to a long weekend of rest and relaxation (and maybe even a sinful amount of duty abandoning knitting)...

Before any of you are up this morning my day will have started.  Superwife surprised me this past Christmas morning with a big BIG  BIG present and today we are setting out really early to pick it up... in Atlanta.  My beautiful, thoughtful, and sneaky wife has given me a Mach spinning wheel by Spinolutions!  In fact, she's giving me this spinning wheel:

It is coming to me through my new friend Doug, who lives in Atlanta...

The specs on this thing are amazing.  I've even seen a video in which they demonstrate how well balanced this machine is by getting it going and then walking away -- leaving the wheel to spin on its own for a full 4 minutes... Incredible.

So rather than sharing fiber that I've purchased, I'll soon be able to turn Fiber Fever Friday into something more personal and hard-won!

But just in case you are one of the faithful who has shown up today just to see a picture of a beautiful hank of yarn, this one's for you:

This is another Christmas present from a very thoughtful and inspiring friend of mine with lots and lots of spark!  It's a beautiful and extremely soft alpaca blend by Suss Yarn.  I don't yet know what to do with it... any ideas?

Thank you all for stopping by to check in with me and mine today.

Have a wonderful Friday and a knitful weekend!

Fiber Fever Friday #7

Hi all, I know my posts have been rather concise lately but there's been a lot going on.  No big reveal until we have some finalized dates on our plans but let's just say it's been hectic and seriously cutting into the project time.  Ah, well...

So, it's Fiber Fever Friday and I have some beautiful fiber to share today:

It's Andes by Debbie Bliss -- an Alpaca and Mulberry Silk blend.  These beauties were an amazing find at Knitting Sisters in Williamsburg at 80% off.  Obviously, I grabbed all I could -- exhibiting the only negative characteristic of the fiber obsessed -- pure fiber greed... :-)

No plans for it as of yet, I only have 400 meters and it's going to have to be something really awesome...  Maybe a scarf with a green and white cable?  I dunno... Any ideas?

The Night Circus continues to be an amazing read, or listen rather, and it's hard to turn off -- keeping me up late into the night for just a little bit more.  I love books like that.  I'm contemplating a Night Circus inspired shawl pattern -- it would be my first.  I'll have to think on it some more but the inspiration is certainly there.

Finally, only 7 days until the first annual South East Men's Knitting Retreat!  Dunno if I'm leaving Thursday evening or really early Friday morning for the 8 hour drive.  Perhaps I'll move Fiber Fever Friday to Thursday next week...

Have a great weekend all!  Knit Happy!

Fiber Fever Friday #6

It's Fiber Fever Friday and I want to wish everyone a Happy Halloween this weekend... Have fun and be safe!

Am planning on hanging out this evening with the boys from out of town and hitting the range tomorrow morning.  Looking forward to a lot of good fun, good food, and good times this weekend!

The countdown to the first annual Southeast Men's Knitting Retreat begins today -- 14 days and counting!  I'm really looking forward to this -- well to everything except the 8 hour drive that is...

Okay, so today's fiber... I have two fall-ish fibers today (right now those are the colors calling to me).  The first is a beautiful Manos del Uruguay Maxima worsted/bulky in Beehive (8881):

The second is an amazingly fall-colored 100% merino superwash sock yarn.  It's Cherry Tree Hill's Supersock Select in Cabin Fever:

Fiber Fever Friday #5

Good Morning Everybody!  Thank God It's Friday.....

What a crazy week.  You go away for 6 business days and it takes 2 weeks to recover!

Lots going on right now -- although I've had little project time I've got big plans as usual and today's Fiber Fever Friday falls right in line with that plan.

Take a look at this beautiful stash addition:

I found this awesome deal on DBNY.  70% off!  It's Gedifra's Living in Forest and Apple -- 100% Superwash Wool, Worsted).  I believe it's destiny is to become this hoodie...  I'm excited to get started on it, but there's a lot in the queue in front of it :)

I'm meeting a knitting friend, SmallTownKnitGuy, tomorrow.  We're getting together for the first time and are planning something of a yarn crawl!  (not that I need any more yarn ;)  We're hoping to find a good place to sit and knit in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area.  Any suggestions?
